Just in time for pothole season the Rockland County Highway Department has purchased its first asphalt recycler. In an effort to save taxpayer money and protect the environment, municipalities across the nation are recycling asphalt and using their milling and waste material for road repairs.
Rockland’s $74,000 recycler will produce 2,600 pounds of hot mix asphalt in as little as 15 minutes, at a fraction of the cost of buying new asphalt, officials say. According to the county, the recycler is ideal for pothole patching, repairing utility trenches, water main breaks and all other types of asphalt repairs.
