Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with a performance by the West Point Band followed by a spectacular drone show. This patriotic community event features food and fun for all ages at Felix Festa Middle School. 400 illuminated drones will light up the night sky in a stunning tribute to our great nation.

Gates will open at 6 p.m., West Point Band will play at 8 p.m. and the drone show will begin at 9:15 p.m.

Chiku Awali Presents African Dance Extravaganza

Chiku Awali African Dance, Arts & Culture, Inc. announces its 23rd annual African Dance Extravaganza,returning Sunday, July 26, 2026, to the Rockland Community College Cultural Arts Theater.

Festivities begin at 12:00 PM with the Marketplace, featuring artisan vendors and community partners. Interactive drumming and dance workshops start at 1:00 PM, welcoming participants of all ages. There is also a Friday night workshop from 6:30 to 7:30 with our own Dashawn Boykin.

The main performance begins at 3:00 PM, showcasing the Chiku Awali dancers and drummers alongside two acclaimed guest companies:

• Harambee Dance Company — celebrated for its powerful blend of traditional African movement

and contemporary choreography.

• Emotions Physical Theater — known for athletic, emotionally charged dance theater.

The Extravaganza highlights African and African-diasporic traditions through movement and rhythm. Audiences can expect vibrant costumes, live drumming, and opportunities to join in the celebration.

Students, Seniors Connect Through Archery

Some Chestnut Ridge seniors will get a chance to hit the bull’s eye when some student archers come for a visit. Student volunteers with Aim for Unity, will host an archery workshop at Artis Senior Living of Chestnut Ridge at 1 p.m., June 29 at the community located at 801 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Chestnut Ridge, NY.

Aim for Unity was founded by Samuel Kim, a nationally ranked archer whose grandmother’s journey with dementia inspired him to create a program that pairs purposeful movement with education, encouragement and intergenerational connection. Participants use special Velcro arrows and adapted equipment, making the activity accessible, engaging and comfortable for those trying archery for the first time.

Research continues to show that physical activity can help support brain resilience and overall well-being and Aim for Unity’s approach offers residents a joyful way to move, focus and share an uplifting experience together.

Filmmakers from around the world are officially invited to submit their work to the 3rd Annual Nyack Sci-Fi & Horror Film Festival,

This year’s 2-night event will showcase a diverse lineup of visionary storytelling, cutting-edge effects, and unforgettable scares. The festival celebrates the creativity of emerging and established filmmakers while inviting audiences to immerse themselves in fresh, imaginative, and daring voices in genre cinema.

DMV Unviels New Patriotic 250th License Plate

Twelve score and 10 years ago, our founders brought forth a new nation.

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is bringing forth a new plate to mark the historic occasion.

The custom plate features an image of the United States, stars and proclaims “United States of America 250” across the bottom. It was unveiled Tuesday at Peebles Island State Park outside Albany and is available to order on the DMV’s website and at all DMV offices across New York State.

“We are delighted to offer this plate to the public as the nation proudly celebrates its 250th anniversary,” said DMV Acting Commissioner Christian Jackstadt. “It is a great way for New Yorkers to display their love of country and express their appreciation for all America has to offer.”

The specialty plate costs $60 upon initial purchase. There is an annual renewal fee of $31.25, in addition to the normal registration renewal costs.

The plate will be offered for passenger class vehicles only. For an additional fee, customers can personalize their plate by ordering specific letter and number combinations with up to 6 characters.

The plate can be issued with the symbol of access, with up to 5 characters

Peaches and cream, the perfect no-cook summer dessert

This rendition on the classic peaches and cream is surprising, light and refreshing. I am a big fan of Babcock peaches and other white peach varieties, and I make many dishes when this early summer fruit makes its debut. I’ll toss chopped peaches into arugula salad to create a sweet and bitter contrast or add them to pies, crostatas, quick breads and fruit compotes.

Don’t worry if you can’t find white peaches; orange ones work nicely as well. This no-cook sweet is Seriously Simple, especially if you have the ingredients on hand.

I’ve changed out whipped cream here for creamy ricotta cheese for a subtly sweet result. Select peaches that are not completely ripe with a little give to them. If you have a mandoline, use it here to slice very thin pieces. Otherwise, use a very sharp knife and slice the pitted peaches very thinly. If you want some crunch, accompany with amaretti cookies.

Summer Peaches and Cream

Serves 4

2 firm white peaches

Juice of 1 lemon

1 pound (2 cups) fresh ricotta cheese, whole milk or skim

4 tablespoons honey

1/4 cup toasted unsalted pistachios

2 tablespoons fruity olive oil

1. Slice the peaches in half and pit them. Slice into thin pieces on a mandoline or with a sharp knife. Toss with lemon juice in a bowl and reserve.

2. Divide the ricotta among four glass dessert bowls, (about 1/2 cup each). Drizzle a tablespoon of honey on each, and sprinkle on a heaping tablespoon of toasted pistachios. Decorate each with a few peach slices and a drizzle of olive oil and serve.
