Massive Storm Sweeps Through Rockland

It seems Rockland can’t quite catch a break when it comes to weather. Multiple days of intense heat was followed by pouring rain, which resulted in soaked Fourth of July celebrations and roads covered in fallen trees and debris. O&R, which covers Orange, Rockland and parts of Bergen, were kept busy during the weekend, working thorough the weekend to restore power to the more than 47,000 O&R customers who lost power. O&R kept the RCT apprised of power outages in Rockland, and what follows is a play by play of the results of the storm.

July 4, 2026, 11:30 p.m.

O&R crews responded to damage and power outages caused by severe thunderstorms and powerful winds rolling through the service area, prioritizing public safety by securing hazardous areas and de-energizing downed power lines.

As of 11:30 p.m. on July 4th, approximately 12,600 O&R customers remained without power.

New York – 10,055

Rockland County – 6,466

July 5, 2026, 5:00 p.m.

Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R) emergency response teams worked non-stop throughout July 4th holiday celebrations to restore power to customers impacted by thunderstorms and soaring temperatures.

Power was restored to more than 33,800 customers impacted by the thunderstorms and extreme heat that preceded them. As of 5:00 p.m. on July 5th, approximately 3,440 O&R customers remained without power in the following areas:

New York – 1,926

Rockland County – 1,346

July 6, 2026, 6:00 a.m.

O&R’s emergency response crews, which includes nearly 170 overhead line technicians, vegetation removal experts, and nearly 160 mutual aid crew members, restored power to more than 40,000 customers impacted by the thunderstorms and the extreme heat that preceded them.

As of 6:00 a.m. on July 6th, approximately 1,810 O&R customers remained without power.

July 6, 2026, 5:00 p.m.

Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R) emergency response teams have restored service to more than 45,000 customers impacted by the recent extreme weather.

As of July 6th at 5:00 p.m., approximately 1,500 customers remained without power.

New York – 867

Rockland County – 321

July 7, 2026, 2:00 p.m.

As of July 7th at 2:00 p.m., O&R representatives confirmed there were 130 customers out of service, marking a remarkable 6,336 customer’s power restored in three days.

July 8, 2026, 9:00 a.m.

At 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, O&R reported only six outages in New York State.
