Road Rage Incident Escalates, Hand Gun Allegedly Drawn

On Thursday, July 2, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers from the Ramapo Police Department responded to the area of Hemion Road and Lackawanna Trail in the Village of Montebello following a report of a road rage incident possibly involving a handgun.

The investigation determined that the incident began on the northbound Exit 14B off-ramp of the New York State Thruway before escalating as the vehicles traveled to the area of  Hemion Road and Lackawanna Trail. Prior to officers’ arrival, the suspect had fled the  scene.

A description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle was immediately broadcast to  responding officers. A short time later, officers located the vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 59.

Following an on-scene investigation, officers arrested a 32-year-old female from New  Jersey in connection with the incident. During the investigation, officers recovered an  imitation pistol believed to have been used during the encounter. Investigators also  determined that the defendant’s 9-year-old daughter was present inside the vehicle during the incident.

The defendant has been charged with:

• Two (2) counts of Menacing in the Second Degree

• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree

• Endangering the Welfare of a Child

• Harassment in the Second Degree

The defendant is currently being held at the Ramapo Police Department pending  arraignment.

It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and a defendant is  presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
