Sloatsburg Structure Fire and Explosion Results in Injury

At 10:46am, on July 22nd, the Ramapo Police Department responded to a reported explosion and active structure fire at 265 Orange Tpke in the Village of Sloatsburg within the confines of the Town of Ramapo. Upon arrival, the building was engulfed and all occupants had been evacuated. As of this time, there was one injured party suffering serious injuries that was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not currently being disclosed. The explosion and resulting fire are not deemed suspicious at this time; however, it is still an active scene and investigation. RPD was assisted on scene by the Rockland County Sheriff Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Tuxedo Police Department, Sloatsburg FD, Tuxedo FD, Monsey FD, Monroe FD, Mahwah FD, Hillburn FD, Suffern FD Hose Company, Greenwood Lake FD, Washingtonville FD, Woodbury FD.

As of 2:30 pm, Route 17 had been reopened in both directions.
