M&T Bank and Holocaust Museum Launch “Super Heroes and the Holocaust”

More than 60 M&T Bank employees gathered at the Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance and Education (HMCTE) in Suffern, N.Y., on July 29 for a powerful day of learning, reflection, and community engagement. Through guided tours of the museum and interactions with moving exhibits, participants explored the lessons of Holocaust history and its relevance in addressing prejudice, intolerance, and division in today’s society.

The visit also marked the launch of a new educational initiative, Superheroes and the Holocaust, an engaging program designed to teach young people about moral courage, resilience, and the responsibility we all share to stand up against hatred and injustice. The program uses accessible storytelling and relatable examples to help students understand how individual choices can make a meaningful difference in their communities.

The partnership between HMCTE and M&T Bank comes at a time when communities across the country are facing heightened polarization, antisemitism, and social division. Together, the organizations are demonstrating how businesses, nonprofits, and educators can collaborate to foster understanding, civic engagement, and respect for human dignity. The initiative is expected to be introduced to schools across New York State, with plans for broader expansion in the future.

A unique aspect of the museum’s work is its strong local connection. Much of HMCTE’s programming is rooted in the experiences and testimonies of Holocaust survivors who lived in Rockland County, helping ensure that these stories remain personal, relevant, and accessible to future generations. While preserving the memory of the Holocaust remains central to its mission, the museum also equips students, educators, businesses, and community leaders with practical tools to recognize bias, promote acceptance, and inspire moral courage in everyday life.
