FREE AI Glasses Available for Veterans

Suffern Free Library has announced a new partnership with TechSoup and Senator Bill Weber to distribute Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses to local honorably discharged and active-duty veterans living with significant visual impairments. Funded through a nationwide donation from Meta, this initiative pairs cutting-edge wearable technology with hands-on library training to boost independence for low-vision service members.

The Ray-Ban Meta glasses integrate cameras, microphones, speakers, and Meta AI voice controls directly into classic frames. Designed to act as an intuitive assistant, the technology helps blind and low-vision users accomplish everyday tasks—such as reading text aloud, identifying objects in their surroundings, and navigating public spaces—hands-free.

Training and Distribution Schedule

To help recipients maximize the benefits of the technology, veterans will receive their glasses during a required hands-on training session hosted at the library. Sessions are scheduled for:

Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 4:30 PM

Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 1:30 PM

Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 4:00 PM

Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 11:00 AM

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a free pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be an honorably discharged veteran or active-duty U.S. service member.

Experience significant visual impairment that interferes with daily living.

Own a compatible smartphone (required for setup and app integration).

Registration Information

Eligible veterans must register in advance for one of the four training dates via the Suffern Free Library events calendar at www.suffernfreelibrary.org. Glasses will be distributed directly to participants upon completion of the training.
