Boulders Take Rubber Game in T-R 

The Boulders built a 13-1 lead, then had to hold off the Trois-Rivières Aigles 13-8 in  Thursday night’s rubber match at Stade Quillorama, where TJ Stanton joined Jamie Keefe as the  only managers in franchise history to rack up 300 career regular season wins.

New York (43-39) led wire to wire, getting a first inning sacrifice fly from DH Jason Agresti before C  Daniel McElveny (Mick-ELL-vih-nee) added an RBI double in the second.

It would be 7-0 after three, thanks to a two-run homer by LF Matt Polk and McElveny’s three-run  shot three batters later.

The visitors made it 9-0 in the fourth, when SS Austin Dennis scored on an error before RF Norris  McClure added a single — the third hit on his 5-for-6 night that also included a three-run homer to  highlight the Boulders’ four-run top of the eighth and up the lead to 13-1.

RHP Emmett Bice (W, 3-3 / 7.2 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 9 K) gave up just one run through the first seven  frames, struck out a season-high nine, and earned his first win since June 3.

Les Aigles (29-52) made it interesting with seven runs in the bottom of the eighth before RHP Jalon  Long worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth and recorded the final three outs.

The Boulders begin the second stop on their eight-game road trip tomorrow (Friday) night in Québec  against the four-time defending champion Capitales. New York’s last visit to Stade Canac (June 26- 28) saw the guys come away with their first-ever three-game sweep. First pitch in the series  opener is scheduled for 7:05pm EDT.

Also of note:

* 2B Santino Rosso (3rd inning walk) extended his on-base streak to 17 consecutive games * Polk, McClure, and McElveny combined to drive in 11 of the Boulders’ 13 runs

* The win, coupled with the Jackals’ 12-2 victory at home vs. Down East, keeps New York tied with  New Jersey for first place in the East Division
