On a recent late summer Monday, Assemblyman Aron Wieder hosted a mobile pop-up event at Orangetown Town Hall. The event was aimed at giving back to the local community by providing free school supplies to kids and families that are returning to school. This is aimed at helping families and students prepare for the new year.
Although he opened a new office in Ramapo in January, he really believes in being accessible to local communities.
This is not the first mobile event Wieder’s team has hosted; In April they appeared at the Rockland County Youth Fest held at RCC – and only a few weeks ago his team held mobile office hours in Piermont at the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library. These community events are a key strategy for Wieder and his team.
Wieder, who represents New York’s 97th Assembly District tells me that his mobile events have been a big hit with the community. He tells me that many times his constituents aren’t able to come to him and these local events in key communities often show not only that he’s there for his community but also it makes it easier for residents to bring issues to his attention.
Wieder tells me he is particularly proud of his recent accomplishment of helping to secure $650,000 in sate funding for various projects in Piermont. $200,00 is going to the revitalization of the Piermont Pier, $200,000 is going toward the procurement of a new search and rescue boat, and the rest is going toward other various projects.
As we are discussing this project and others a concerned constituent walked in asking for help with her adult disabled son. Wieder was happy to help and quickly found time to schedule a meeting.
Some key issues that residents are surprised to learn that the Assemblyman can help them with range from DMV issues, unemployment assistance and even offering assistance to Veterans.
The Orangetown distribution followed a larger back-to-school initiative held in Monsey on Aug. 23. Rockland Daily reported that thousands of families attended.
