Immigrant Justice Unity Walk Expands Fundraising Efforts

By Rick Pezzullo

An organization that provides programs and resources for immigrants has expanded its fundraising efforts.

Proyecto Faro (PF) was founded in 2017 to advocate for immigrant communities, provide leadership development and engagement opportunities, and work with immigrants to develop solutions to their challenges, build power, and pursue structural change.

Four years ago, PF held its first Unity Walk to raise funds for its immigrant justice programs, including its legal clinic, food program—which includes food distribution and three community refrigerators—free store, and community organizing work for educational justice in East Ramapo and a safe and welcoming community for immigrants.

This year’s walk was slated for Sept. 27, but with wet and windy conditions forecast, PF decided to turn the walk into a three-week experiment to help it reach its $35,000 goal. The 21-day endeavor will conclude on Sat., Oct 17 from noon to 4 p.m. with a walk at Stony Point Center, but PF is encouraging participants to organize their own walk at any location at any time to get more involvement.

The Oct. 17 event will include the walk, food, children’s activities and PF’s immigration timeline.

Those walking at locations other than Stony Point are encouraged to take pictures and share a brief summary of their walk on their RallyUp page or with Proyecto Faro. To participate, visit https://go.rallyup.com/unitywalk2026  and click on “Caminar/Walk” to register. Participants can also support the campaign by clicking “Donar/Donate.”

“Most importantly, please use this fun and connective campaign as an opportunity to ask everyone you know to join you in supporting Proyecto Faro!” organization leaders stated. “From near and far, let’s unite to support this vital beacon for immigrant justice and beloved community. Times are hard and getting harder, but we will walk on toward justice for all!”
