Simon says they are ready to say goodbye to a piece of Rockland history

You’ve heard of Americana, and a tear drop falls whenever a classic piece of Americana bites the dust.

Well there’s also such a thing as Rocklandia, and this past month Simon Group, the nation’s largest proprietor of shopping malls has begun to deconstruct a little piece of Rocklandia; the Middletown Rd. home of the late great Ellen Ferretti.

Ferretti gained local fame in the 1980s and 90s when she successfully warded off several attempts by the owners of the Nanuet Mall to acquire her property. She lived there, the last residential property in the midst of the shopping district on Rt. 59 in Nanuet,  until her passing in 2008 at the age of 91.

Her nephew has since sold the home to Simon Group
