On November 21, Dominican College students were recognized for academic achievement at the College’s annual Honors Convocation. During the Honors Convocation Ceremony, students who were named to the Dean’s List for one or more complete years were awarded a symbol appropriate to academic excellence, the tassel that graduates wear during commencement.
These distinctively colored tassels signify the sustained quality of their academic work at Dominican. White tassels were awarded for superior achievement for one complete academic year. Red tassels were awarded for exceptional accomplishment in College studies for two complete academic years. Gold tassels were awarded to those students who have maintained outstanding academic records for three complete academic years. Honors Convocation also includes induction of students into Alpha Chi, the national honor society. These students have pledged themselves to both scholarship and service. Membership is limited to the top 10 percent of an institution’s juniors, seniors, and graduate students.

Alpha Chi student leadership at Dominican College and their faculty advisors have created two annual awards – one for the new member of the honor society who has most notably shown commitments to both scholarship and service, and the other for a student who, after his or her first year, has shown promise of such commitments. This year the Dr. John Lounibos Award for outstanding commitments to the Dominican College Chapter of Alpha Chi was awarded to Heather Breittholz of Wallkill, NY. The Sr. Miriam Catherine Nevins Award for outstanding promise was awarded to Camille Hamlet of New City, NY.
