CARDINAL EGAN TO VISIT NORTH ROCKLAND PARISH

St. Gregory Barbarigo Celebrating 50th anniversary

Cardinal Edward Egan, Archbishop Emeritus of New York, will officiate a special commemorative Mass on Sunday, January 15 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church to kick off the parish’s 50th anniversary celebration.

“Since coming to St. Gregory’s last year, I’ve been touched by the wonderful history of our parish and school,” said Rev. Joseph LaMorte, the pastor of the parish. “With the help of Jesus Christ, we’ve built a remarkable Catholic community that has continued to grow, evolve and prosper for five decades. St. Gregory’s is truly an extraordinary place and a great source of pride for our parishioners. We are very excited about our Jubilee celebration.”

Sunday’s Mass is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. One of the most exciting events of the 18-month Jubilee celebration will be the Jubilee Banquet on Saturday, March 3 at the Colonial Inn in Norwood, N.J. At the banquet, the parish will recognize pastors and school principals who have served the parish for the last 50 years. Cardinal-elect Timothy M. Dolan of New York is expected to visit St. Gregory’s in 2013 to culminate the Jubilee celebration. St. Gregory’s is the fourth largest parish in Rockland County with more than 2,500 families and its school is the county’s biggest with nearly 300 students.
