INSANITY IN AMERICA’S SCHOOLS

School administrators reveal their fascist streak again as student is accused of “bullying” for submitting editorial to school newspaper

The thought police are stepping up their patrols and adding “bait and switch” to their tactics.
Toward the end of 2011 unacceptable bullying by school administrators came in separate incidents in Massachusetts and North Carolina, when bureaucrats accused little kids, ages seven and nine respectively, of “sexual harassment,” for what any sane person would consider innocuous childhood behavior.
The latest abrogation of our public school students’ natural rights by heavy-handed high and mighty school bureaucrats might be just as bad as that disgrace.
A student at Shawano High School in Wisconsin was asked to submit an opinion to a high school newspaper on whether gay adoption should be legal, and soon found himself accused of being a “bully” for harboring what the school administrators consider unacceptable opinions.
The student, 15-year-old Brandon Wegner, explained based on his understanding of the Bible, why he opposed gay adoption. Wegner’s editorial read like a mainstream evangelical opinion opposed to increased “LGBT rights,” yet school administrators were mortified and panicked when a gay parent complained.
They issued an apology, and then took the constitutionally odious measure of accusing Wegner of violating their bullying policy. Mind you the editors solicited opinions both pro and con in a point-counterpoint style piece. The school’s apology only cited Wegner’s unpopular opinion, and did not apologize for the school editors soliciting opinions from both sides of the issue.
In other words, Wegner was trapped in a bait and switch; asked to write what he believed and then punished for doing so.
The Liberty Counsel, an influential and often successful legal organization founded by followers of the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, is representing the Wegner family in the case.
The Liberty Counsel accuses administrators of inappropriately and unprofessionally badgering Wegner when they questioned him about the incident. Liberty says administrator Todd Carlson told Wegner he was “one of the most ignorant kids to try to argue with him about this topic” and warned  “we have the power to suspend you if we want to” and also complained that the column had “personally offended me, so I know you offended other people.”

Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, turned the situation around on Shawano administrators, and said, “The bullying at Shawano High School is by Superintendent Todd Carlson and the school officials, not the student, Brandon Wegner. The school officials have displayed blatant intolerance of a view…held by many people. The school’s actions are shocking and unjustified. The superintendent should immediately apologize and stop the bullying.”
