Three youths, ages 19, 20, and 18, are charged with a hate crime in the mugging of a 19-year-old in Monsey. Stanley Joseph, 19, of 5 Oakdale Manor in Suffern, Jennifer St. Amand, 21, of 138 Route 59 in Suffern, and Qwesi Williams, 20, of 781 Ocean Ave. in Brooklyn, have been charged by Ramapo PD each with a charge of first-degree attempted robbery as a hate crime.
Josephs and Williams also face one charge each of second degree assault as a hate crime, while St. Amand faces a charge of making a false written statement.
Police said the victim is a resident of Brooklyn. The victim was whacked in the head with a knife whose blade was covered, after which the alleged assailants are said to have demanded money. When the victim screamed, it brought attention to the scene and he was able to get away unscathed. He later refused medical attention.
