BY GEORGE J. DACRE
Speaking to the Rockland County Times from Denver, Colorado, Ray Roderick says what’s new about “‘S Wonderful” is that it is five mini-musicals in one, using the music of George and Ira Gershwin in a series of settings from Paris to New York to New Orleans to Hollywood.
Roderick, a veteran of several productions at the Westchester Broadway Theatre in Elmsford says the great Gershwin tunes such as “Somebody Loves Me,” “Love Is Here to Stay,” “Embraceable You” and so many more included in “S’Wonderful” is the music of many peoples lives and will be well received in the show that he directs and co-wrote.
Gershwin’s music is attuned to the world with its classical, jazz and symphonic styles and “S’Wonderful,” created two years ago in Pittsburgh, has toured the country with great success, says Roderick. “We created new scripts around the Gershwin music in a fast moving stage vehicle and audiences just love it,” Roderick states.
Westchester Broadway Theatre is a great venue for this production and producers Bill Stutler and Bob Funking appreciate the diversity of the Gershwin music and the styling of “S’Wonderful,” Roderick said.
“WBT attracts the best talent and compares wonderfully with Broadway shows,” said Roderick, who has directed several plays both on Broadway and in Westchester. S’wonderful opens March 1 and runs through March 25. Tickets at 914-592-2222 or broadwaytheatre.com.
