Stony Point police are urging local residents to keep their cool about a reported weekend incident that has been making the rounds on social media. SPPD says On March 3, 2012, at approx. 6:02 p.m. they “responded to the area of Osborn Dr. in the Town of Stony Point to investigate a suspicious person. Responding officers were advised by an area resident that his two children were playing in the driveway of their residence when they observed a white male wearing an army camouflage type hat with sunglasses standing between a car and a bush next to their residence.
“The children ran into the garage and closed the door. The children advised that the above subject looked at them while the garage door was closing. The subject did NOT attempt to engage the children in conversation and fled the area. Responding officers canvassed the area with negative results.
“Additional description of subject is as follows: approx. 20 yrs. old, 6ft. and medium build wearing a blue jacket, red shirt, blue jeans and dark shoes. Anyone with information may contact the Stony Point Police Department at 845 786-2744. This information is being disseminated in response to false information that has been distributed via social media sites.
“The investigation has NOT produced any information that the above subject had intent to commit a crime.”
