BY GEORGE J. DACRE
“S’Wonderful,” is all-out music, singing and dancing presented in a mini musical format. The show stars some very talented performers who take George and Ira Gershwin’s music to new heights.
Director Ray Roderick, also co writer of the show, tells the stories in five different venues from New York City to New Orleans, Paris, Hollywood and Coast to Coast. Using the great Gershwin creations, “S’Wonderful” is fast moving, using song and dance to tell the stories of it’s characters.
Five performers; Deidre Haren (Leslie) Stacey Harris (Jane) Mary Millben( Nina), Blakeley Slaybaugh (Harold) and Sean Watkin (Gene) work smoothly together. Musical Director/pianist Ken Lundie uses a seven piece on stage orchestra to swing through S’Wonderful energetically.
The music speaks for itself as it did decades ago on Broadway. It starts with “Rhapsody in Blue” and goes on to include all the great Gershwin tunes such as “There is Summertime and the Man I Love,” and “Fascinating Rhythm.”
The music is great, the choreography is fantastic and Rodericks direction is topflight.
I rate “S’Wonderful” at Westchester Broadway Theatre in Elmsford Three Out Of Four Stars!!! It runs through March 25.
