Legislator Wolfe Encourages Consumers to Take Advantage of State Rebate Program for Purchase of Energy-Efficient Appliances

New City, NY –  Rockland County Legislator Alden H.
Wolfe is encouraging consumers who are in the market for a new
refrigerator or clothes washer to consider the purchase of
high-efficiency models which may make them eligible for the “Buy
Green, Save Green NYS High-Efficiency Appliance Rebate Program”.  The
rebate program is federally funded state program that is managed by the
NYS Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

“This is a wonderful opportunity for those who may be in the market
for a refrigerator or clothes washer,” said Legislator Wolfe.  “The
program will give rebates of $350 for high-efficiency refrigerators and
$250 for high-efficiency clothes washers.  Consumers will also benefit
from the reduced cost of operation over the life of the appliance.
These high-efficiency appliances are designed, as the case may be, to
use less electric and gas energy and less water.”

Wolfe, who is the Vice-Chairman of the Legislature and the chair of the
Environmental Committee, also noted that the operation of
high-efficiency appliances does help to reduce the level of carbon
dioxide (CO2) that is released by the US power grid annually.  “Every
little bit helps,” said Wolfe.

The $3.5 million program began on Monday, March 19 and will continue
until the funding runs out.
