At approximately 1:13 p.m. On March 21, 2012 , the Town of Ramapo Police received reports of a one car motor vehicle accident, involving a town of Ramapo highway truck.
Responding officers discovered that the town pickup truck had struck a utility pole and subsequently caught on fire. The town highway worker suffered and injury to his arm, but was able to exit the vehicle to a safe location. There were no other cars or vehicles involved.
Monsey Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
Investigation at the scene revealed that the driver, James Shannon, took evasive action to avoid striking a dog in the roadway, the vehicle crossed the double yellow line and struck a utility pole. Mr. Shannon was transported to the hospital by Spring Hill Ambulance.
Rockland Paramedics assisted at the scene and Orange & Rockland Utilities responded as well.
