On Monday, July 23, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., the Rockland Boulders and Ovations Food Services will be hosting a blood and bone marrow donor drive at Rockland Boulders Baseball, located at 1 Provident Bank Park Drive in Pomona, in honor of 5-year-old Gabrielle DiCarlo. She was diagnosed with cancer in January and has endured several grueling surgeries since.
When Gabby complained of stomach pains among other symptoms, she was taken to the doctor, who found a large mass above her kidney. Doctors considered the mass to be one of three types of tumors, and, after countless sonograms, CAT scans, blood tests and X-rays, the diagnosis was narrowed down to the possibility of Neuroblastoma, a cancer common in children. Doctors are still not 100 percent sure which kind of cancer DiCarlo has.
Gabby is not a candidate for a bone marrow transplant, but the drive is in honor of the many children suffering with types of cancer requiring bone marrow to save their lives.
Participants are also eligible to receive two up-gradable ticket vouchers to a Boulders game.
