The Knickerbocker Fire Engine Company celebrated their 150 years of service on Saturday September 15, 2012 with a commemorative picnic. In attendance were members of the fire company, family members who use to live in Rockland Lake, 300 guests representing the Rockland County Fire Service and elected officials.
The highlight of the day was John Hanchar Sr. (age 94) and a 72 year member of Knickerbocker Engine Company reminiscing about what it was like to grow up in Rockland Lake, and the early history of the fire department and the ice house industry.
Assisting the fire company during the celebration were the Clarkstown Police Auxiliary, Rockland County Fire Police and the Rockland County Red Knights.
