Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe announced last Thursday that Baudilio Ramos, 59, of Spring Valley has been convicted of sexually abusing a three-year-old boy.
The jury in the trial found Ramos guilty of one county of sexual abuse in the first degree, a felony, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
The incident occurred on September 26, 2011 when the victimโs mother left the young boy in Ramosโ care for a moment. The boyโs family attended Iglesia La Mision Asamleas de Dios Church in the Village of South Nyack and met Ramos through the church several years earlier.
On the day of the crime, Ramos was driving the church van to help the boyโs mother with a church related errand. The mother left the child with the Ramos while she handled some administrative matters.
When she returned to the van, ย the boyโs mother saw Ramos rubbing his hand up and down over her sonโs genitals. She immediately took the boy and left.
The boyโs parents reported the incident to church officials on the same day and ultimately the contacted Clarkstown Police after church leaders failed to take action against Ramos.
Ramos now faces up to seven years in state prison when he is sentenced on November 29. He will also be leveled as a sex offender in accordance with Meganโs Law.
