Pistol permit holders who wish to apply for privacy from public records searches may now fill out a form found at the Rockland County Clerk’s website:ย http://www.rocklandcountyclerk.com/
Rockland County Clerk Paul Piperato told the Rockland County Times he hopes the state ultimately makes pistol permit privacy automatic so the state and counties needn’t waste time on processing all the forms.
Privacy for gun-owners became a concern when the Gannett-owned newspaper the Journal News decided to publish an interactive online map detailing the exact addresses of local gun permit holders.
The map caused a national backlash which compelled Journal News Publisher Janet Hasson to hire armed guards for her home and the Rockland and Westchester headquarters of the Journal News.
Sources told the Rockland County Times that Gannett CEO Gracia Martore, resident of Great Falls, Virginia, also hired armed guards due to the backlash.
