NEW YORKERS INVITED TO SUBMIT IDEAS FOR THEME OF THE 2013 GREAT NEW YORK STATE FAIR

State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine has announced that, for the first time, New Yorkers will be given the opportunity to come up with the theme of the 2013 Great New York State Fair. New Yorkers have until March 15, 2013 to submit ideas for a theme toย statefairideas@agriculture.ny.gov.ย โ€œThis is just one more way we are giving New Yorkers even more of a stake in their 2013 Great New York State Fair,โ€ Commissioner Aubertine said. โ€œNew Yorkers are creative, innovative and they think big. I want every New Yorker to start thinking big when it comes to this Fair. In the end, this Fair belongs to all New Yorkers and all New Yorkers deserve to have their voices heard when it comes to the premier attraction in New York State.โ€

The Great New York State Fair is an annual celebration of the economic, cultural and institutional strengths indigenous to New York, with a special emphasis on agriculture as one of the Stateโ€™s largest and most important industries. Theme submissions should aim to convey this message. Previous themes included: โ€œDiscover America in the Heart of NYโ€ and โ€œIt Just Keeps Growing and Growing.โ€ย On March 18, 2013, Commissioner Aubertine and State Fair Director Thomas Ryan will go through the submissions for the 2013 Fair theme. They will narrow these themes down to 10. On March 19, 2013, all New Yorkers will be given an opportunity to vote for the theme of the 2013 Great New York State Fair on the Great New York State Fairโ€™s Facebook page, located atย https://www.facebook.com/nysfair. The theme will be announced on April 1, 2013 once all votes are received.
