Recession-weary consumers who have been putting off the basics may find a happy alternative in Great Clips, a hair salon franchise making inroads in Rockland.

While the 30-year-old Great Clips has more than 3,000 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, the metropolitan area is new territory. Fifteen salons have opened in the Hudson Valley region, joining 45 others in New York since 2011.

Great Clips’ New City, Valley Cottage and Airmont locations offer a variety of ala carte services—from a simple bang trim to full-head hair coloring, keep updated customer profiles on file and offer on-line check in ability for clients. Haircuts are $14, and customers can add on other services as desired. Walk-ins are welcome seven days a week.

Great Clips, which offers online discount coupons and has a “Free Haircuts for Life” promotion on Facebook, is expanding its franchise base here in the New York-New Jersey area. Don’t be surprised to see more salons popping up within the next year.
