DEMS TO SWING AT PARTY WITH PERVY THEME

Young Democrats to hold “Fifty Shades of Blue”-themed fundraiser

BY DYLAN SKRILOFF

We’ve heard it said that power is the greatest aphrodisiac, but in politics, perhaps discretion should be named a close second.

The Rockland County Young Democrats have chosen to ignore the discrete path, and are holding a fundraiser this evening, March 14, under the theme: “Fifty Shades of Blue,” named after the S&M erotica novel “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

The party theme was the brainchild of Young Dems ever-colorful co-president Joseph Coe and it seems to have played well to his audience.

Coe has successfully enticed the entire body politic of Rockland Democratic leadership to get involved in his S&M theme-named fundraiser. “True Blue” sponsors include Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack, the Rockland Democratic Committee and Suffern Mayor/2013 county exec candidate Dagan LaCorte.

But isn’t it St. Patrick’s weekend?

“Navy Blue” sponsor, Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart, will be joined at the event by “Electric Blue” sponsors Congresswoman Nita Lowey, NYS Senator David Carlucci, NYS Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski, Rockland County Clerk Paul Piperato, Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco, Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence, Clarkstown Town Councilwoman Stephanie Hausner, Rockland County Legislator Michael Grant, the Independent Democrats of Haverstraw, county exec candidate David Fried and Haverstraw highway supervisor candidate John Piperato.

At least one high-ranking Democrat wasn’t thrilled with Coe’s sassy theme. “He’s [demented],” the peeved source said. **

A co-traveler of the young Democrats circle had mixed reviews for Coe’s idea. On one hand the young Democrats are known for ‘colorful’ themes. “It’s very much in line with the Young Democrats to come up with something playful and eye-catching,” the source said.

However, overall, the young Democrat expressed disgruntlement with the scene. “They do a lot of things to make noise, but that’s all it is–noise. Nothing that gets results. Nothing effective. Just the same old group of crazies,” the self-described “moderate” Democrat said.

No word yet on whether the S&M theme extends beyond the name of the event. For the sake of some of the more modest Democrats in attendance, we hope that it’s not too racy.
