HEALTH DEPT ANNOUNCES TRY-IT TUESDAYS

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE COUNTY HEALTH DEPT.

Are you looking for healthier choices at your local corner store or bodega? The Rockland County Department of Health, the Village of West Haverstraw, and six village corner stores are working to make the healthy choice the easy choice!

“The Health Department’s Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work, and Play grant’s Corner Store/Bodega project encourages stores to sell healthier foods and display healthier options at eye level on shelves, by the store entrance, or at the cash register to encourage customers to purchase healthier items,” said Kathleen M. Henry, R.N., M.A., Acting Commissioner of Health.

Some stores will be offering free samples of healthier items on Tuesdays in a campaign called Try-It-Tuesday. To kick off the campaign, Quick Shop Convenient Food Store, located at 85 Ramapo Road in West Haverstraw, will be offering free samples of Turkey Chili, a healthier version of their popular chili, on Tuesday, March 19 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

You can pick up tasty, good-for-you choices at any one of these stores participating in the Healthier Corner Store/Bodega project: 202 Mini Mart & Deli, located at 135 Ramapo Road, Best Cousins Deli & Pizzeria located at 125 East Railroad Avenue, Jose’s Grocery, located at 58 Railroad Avenue, B&S Asian Groceries, located at 17 South Route 9W, and Café D’lite, located at 120 West Ramapo Road in Garnerville.

Stay tuned for the next “Try-it-Tuesday” date, time and store! For more information about the Corner Store/Bodega project or Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work, and Play, contact the Rockland County Department of Health at 845-364-2500 or [email protected].
