Rockland County Legislator Ilan Schoenberger is sponsoring a resolution calling upon the State of New York and the State Thruway Authority to name the Spring Valley Toll Plaza in honor the late Armand Miele. Mr. Miele, the former publisher of the Rockland County Times, a civic activist and a real estate developer, passed away on March 5.

“Mr. Miele is perhaps best known for his successful efforts to eliminate passenger tolls at the Spring Valley Toll Plaza,” said Legislator Schoenberger. “This relieved an unfair financial burden on Rockland residents who depended on that section of the thruway for local travel. Dylan Skriloff, editor and associate publisher of the Rockland County Times, approached me with this proposal and I agreed that it would be a fitting honor in memory of Mr. Miele’s civic contribution to the residents of Rockland County.”

Schoenberger noted that among Mr. Miele’s many local contributions and accomplishments was his long fight against MTA taxes and the Authority’s jurisdiction over Rockland County, his help to form the Village of Montebello, as well as his work to speed up and cut costs on the long-delayed county courthouse construction.

The resolution will appear on an upcoming agenda of the Legislature’s Planning and Public Works Committee. All Legislature committee agendas can be viewed online at www.rocklandgov.com , click on County Legislature. Meetings are open to the public.
