West Nyack Free Library Hires Eugenia Schatoff as New Director

The Board of Trustees and staff of the West Nyack Free Library are pleased to announce the hiring of Eugenia Schatoff as library director, effective Tuesday, May 7, 2013.

The hiring follows the announced retirement of Rita Tavel Fogelman who has served as the library’s Director for the past 16 years. Ms. Schatoff, a native of Valley Cottage and a graduate of Nyack High School, will be responsible for the planning, direction, supervision, and general day-to-day oversight of the operations of the library.

In addition, Ms. Schatoff will work with the Board of Trustees, staff, and community to develop and implement a strategic plan for the library’s future, and she will work to expand community outreach by building upon existing partnerships with patrons, schools, organizations, and local businesses.

Ms. Schatoff returns to her hometown of Rockland County by way of Watervliet, NY, where she has served as Director of Watervliet Public Library since 2011. Prior to serving in Watervliet, Ms. Schatoff worked as a Librarian for the Bethlehem Public Library in Delmar, NY, as well as for Niskayuna High School in Niskayuna, NY.

Ms. Schatoff is a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, where she earned a dual MA/MSIS in Russian and Information Science. She received her BA in Eastern European Area Studies from Excelsior College.

Ms. Schatoff currently serves on the Upper Hudson Library System Central Library Committee and has actively served on regional committees over the years. Recently Ms. Schatoff was selected as one of the American Library Association’s Emerging Leaders for 2013.

The Board of Trustees said they look forward to a “rewarding partnership” as Ms. Schatoff directs the West Nyack Free Public Library in the years to come.
