Folk Musician Richie Havens Passes Away at 72

Havens died of a heart attack at his home in Jersey City, leaving a legacy of soulful blues-folk music which resonated in the cultural landscape of the 1960s and continues to inspire musicians today. His death came about a month after Havens announced he would no longer be touring due to health concerns.

Havens’ career began in the mid-1960s when he was a rising star in the Greenwich Village music scene. After joining forces with Bob Dylan manager Albert Grossman, his popularity began to soar, culminating in an appearance at the famed Woodstock Festival and a famed cover of George Harrison and the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun.”
