Kickoff Summer 2013 Fundraiser Competition to be Held at Iron Fist Athletics

Just in time for summer, recently opened Iron Fist Athletics (IFA) is excited to announce their Grand Opening Fundraising event to kick off the season. IFA welcomes everyone to join them on Mothers Day, May 12 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. for two in-house competitions: “Do it for Mom.” IFA will be holding a fundraiser to support the American Cancer Society.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to tour the brand new 2,800 square foot facility, meet the owners, Saro and Naz Spenjian, and learn more about CrossFit. IFA offers several classes throughout the weekday from 6 a.m.โ€“7 p.m. and 9-11 a.m. on Saturdays. Classes vary from CrossFit, Strength and Fundamental courses. IFA offers a free intro class.

To help shape up for beach season, beginning June 1, IFA will hold an in-house 30-day Paleo Challenge. The paleo diet is common among CrossFitters to get in optimal shape and lead a healthier lifestyle. Paleo gathers nutrients from vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, meats and fish, while eliminating sugars, grains and processed foods. The paleo diet, sometimes referred to as the caveman diet, is an effort to eat like we did thousands of years ago. If a caveman couldnโ€™t eat it, neither should you. The winner of the challenge will receive a $100 credit towards their membership.

Members at IFA will get nutritional counseling during the challenge to help adjust to the lifestyle change. โ€œAt IFA, we want to make sure our members are getting the best results. This comes with supporting them on healthy meal choices and motivating them during their workouts,โ€ says Saro. โ€œCrossFit is about family, community and most of all energetic workouts.โ€

Highlights of the fitness regimen from CrossFit include Olympic lifting, gymnastics, weightlifting, bodyweight exercises, Kettlebells, rings, climbing rope and much more. Itโ€™s a program that helps prepare their athletes for any physical event. The communal aspect of CrossFit plays a large part in members getting through the Workout of the Day (WOD). CrossFitters compete against one another in 15-20 min high circuit WODs for the best time or to pass personal records.

IFA is located at 149 Main St. Unit G in Nanuet and the first 30 people to sign up can be entered. You do not have to be a member of IFA, but prior CrossFit experience is required. To sign up, email ironfistathletics@gmail.com or stop by in person. There is a $20 sign up fee to compete in the competition and all proceeds will go towards the American Cancer Society. Additional donations will be accepted. Along with giving to a cause, winners of the competition will receive a prize. Come eat and drink at the facility as you cheer the competitors supporting a great cause. Competition details will be announced at the event.

American Cancer Society is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
