Rockland Highway Department Begins Largest Road Resurfacing Program

Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef has announced that the Rockland County Highway Department initiated its largest paving and resurfacing program that includes over 428,064 square yards, approximately 20 miles, of pavement at a projected cost of $4.8 million. Much of the 2012 road program was delayed due to Hurricane Sandy and an exceptionally bad winter that took a toll on roads in the county.

โ€œThe countyโ€™s superintendent of Highways, Skip Vezzetti, and his dedicated staff, will be hard at work during the next few months utilizing various processes including hot-in-place recycling, milling, conventional paving, chipsealing and microsealing to improve our roads throughout the county,โ€ said Vanderhoef.

In order to perform on schedule, the milling and paving operations of roads will be done concurrently. The same applies to the hot-in-place operation that will be done concurrently with the microsealing and chip-sealing processes. Line striping of the roads will occur during the summer months of July and August.
