Feds Raid Town Hall as Stadium Curse Falls Upon St. Lawrence

The FBI is hot on Ramapo Supervisor Chris St. Lawrence’s trail as teams of federal agents beset town hall this afternoon and evening. With a search warrant in hand, the feds evacuated the building, instructing only certain higher-ups and their immediate staff to stay as they conducted the search.

And search they did, for hours and hours on into the night. Eventually the fedsย announced they are not planning to arrest anyone at this time.

Rockland District Attorney Tomย Zugibe confirmed his office is assisting in the investigation and said authorities are looking into possible corruption in the town.

“Sources” have told the media that financial documents, including those surrounding the baseball stadium, are the main subject of the search warrant. The financial department, theย infamous Ramapo Land Developmentย Corp (LDC) whichย formed the stadium, the Townย Attorney Office, were the subjectย of the search, sources said.

The investigation is supposedlyย not a new one and as suchย not necessarily associated withย the recent arrests in Springย Valley of Mayor Noramie Jasminย and Deputy Mayor Josephย Desmaret. However, Desmaretย had a job working for St. Lawrenceย in Ramapo, and the fedsย certainly will be looking forย any of their perps from theย April arrest to sing, sing, sing.

As of Wednesdayย night the question on the mindsย of all Rocklanders is, โ€œWillย Chris St. Lawrence take aย fall? Is the Ramapo supervisorย headed to the big house?โ€

The FBI raided Ramapoย Town Hall around 4 p.m. onย Wednesday afternoon. Nothingย had been confirmed by authoritiesย as of last night, but theย prevalent rumor at the sceneย was that the feds were lookingย for financial documentsย including ones pertaining toย the construction of Providentย Bank Park in Pomona.

County Legislator Josephย Meyers stalked the outside ofย town hall giving interviewsย during the raid.ย He told the Rockland Countyย Times, โ€œI think, and I donโ€™t sayย this lightly, the man [St. Lawrence]ย is corrupt as corrupt canย be. The only thing thatโ€™s everย surprised me is that the nine ofย us have not been standing hereย much sooner.โ€
