Jaffee Statement on East Ramapo Student Walkout

Statement from Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee

“I commend the students of East Ramapo for their non-violent demonstration to bring attention to their concerns and frustrations regarding the poor building conditions and severe spending cuts, which have negatively impacted their access to classes and programs essential to the quality education our state constitution guarantees them.

“With maturity and admirable restraint they have raised their voices in unison. I can assure them that they have been heard, and that I have been deeply committed to resolving this crisis. I have been meeting with leaders in the NYS Department of Education, including Commissioner King, consistently encouraging the state to intervene and to play a strong oversight role, which they have been doing over the past few months. I have also been working along with my colleagues at the highest level of state government to address this situation.”
