Rockland Agencies Launch www.rocklandhunger.org

The Rockland Community Against Hunger (RCAH) announces the launch of www.rocklandhunger.org, an online resource to provide information, raise awareness, mobilize support and educate residents about nutrition and hunger in Rockland County, New York.

According to Maria Dowling, CEO of Rockland Jewish Family Service (a participating RCAH agency), “Many believe that Rockland is an affluent area, with few who go hungry. The truth is that over 200,000 meals are served every month by food pantries and feeding programs to people with food insecurities in our county.”

Robert Maher, executive director of TOUCH-NY Inc., helped to spearhead the creation of Rockland Community Against Hunger and the website, www.rocklandhunger.org. “We needed to improve collaboration among food pantries and feeding programs in Rockland, to better serve our residents who are in need of food assistance. We are proud of our new website and know itwill bring residents, agencies and our local government together, so we canmake hunger in our neighborhoods a thing of the past.”

A Kick-Off Event for www.rocklandhunger.org will take place at the Jewish Community Campus in West Nyack on June 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. Attendees will join RCAH representatives for a “Rockland Get Fresh” delivery, where over 25,000 pounds of food from the Northeast Regional Food Bank and Food Bank of the Hudson Valley will be distributed for free to 30+ local food pantries and feeding programs. Ellen Jaffee, New York State Assemblywoman and Chair of the NYS Farm, Food and Nutrition Policy Advisory Committee, is the event’s guest speaker.
