Rockland YMCA Marks 124 Years

The Rockland County YMCA conducted its 124th Annual Meeting at the Nyack Seaport recently to honor many outstanding volunteer leaders and elect new officers and board members for 2013

John Colgan, an architect from Upper Nyack received the George Schofield Distinguished Service Award for his dedicated service on the YMCA Board of Directors, and for his leadership of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Colgan generously volunteered his expertise in helping the YMCA to conduct many renovation projects at our main YMCA facility in Nyack.

Hon. William P. Warren, Justice of the Rockland County Family Court, received the Community Service Award for his dedicated service as a YMCA Board Member and Trustee. Judge Warren has served as a leader in the New City Rotary Club and Chaired the Advisory Committee of the Childrenโ€™s Center at the Family Court.

Nicole Larkins received a Service to Youth Award for organizing and leading a girlsโ€™ mentoring program for teenagers known as Girlsโ€™ Time Out at the Rockland County YMCA in Nyack.

Emily Stepper received a Service to Youth Award for her role as a Committee Chair and outstanding leadership in the YMCA Youth & Government Club at Nyack High School for the past four years.

Julie Prevost, branch manager of Key Bank in New City, was recognized for her leadership as Board Chair and her service to the YMCA on many of its fundraising committees to benefit youth programs.

Walter Woodhouse, retired assistant superintendent of Nyack Public Schools was recognized for his service on the YMCA Board of Directors and the Program and Membership Committee.

Those elected to serve as officers of the Board of Directors included Hon. Linda Christopher, Chair; Kim Coons, Vice Chair; Josephine Lore, Treasurer ; and Lynnette Marshall, Secretary. Those elected to serve as board members and committee members included Daniella Simone and Wayne Henry.
