DEAD: Proposed bill against Eminent Domain use by a Foreign Corp

One strategy employed by opponents of the Champlain Hudson Power Express that would dig trenches through the CSX rail right-of-way and other areas in Stony Point and Rockland County is dead for the time being, as Assemblyman James Skoufis told the Rockland County Times a bill to ban the annexation of land via eminent domain by foreign corporation dead.

Assemblyman Skoufis said, โ€œI certainly talked to whomever I could up in Albany to push this bill. The billโ€™s sponsor was Assemblyman Joe Morelle. Needless to say, Iโ€™m very disappointed the Judiciary Committee didnโ€™t act on it.โ€

Anti-CHPE activist Susan Filgueras of Stony Point Action Committee for the Environment said, โ€œI am afraid this bill has quietly passed away.โ€

Local state officials Ken Zebrowski, Annie Rabbitt and Ellen Jaffee also supported the bill.
