Haverstraw – Rockland County took time to honor some of its oldest and most distinguished residents with its annual 90 Plus Recognition Day event at Haverstraw’s Bowline Park at noon on July 15.
The event featured a full lunch and comments from town, county and state elected officials, marked the 90 Plus Club’s seventh Recognition Day.
“We started it seven years ago and we did it because we wanted to recognize those who have given so much to their community,” Haverstraw Town Supervisor Howard Phillips said. “We want to show them and demonstrate to them our appreciation and gratitude.”
Also included in the celebration were new officer appointments and the welcoming of 13 new members, boosting the club up to 73 members. Among the new inductees was former West Haverstraw Mayor Edward Zugibe, who served in his position for 35 years before his retirement.
Of the 73 honorees, two were distinguished in making it past the age of 100. These honorees were Rose Baisley and Sylvia Calabrese.
