CLARKSTOWN POLICE: VEHICULAR ASSAULT

salaiOn Friday, July 26, 2013, shortly after 9:30 p.m., the Clarkstown Police Department arrested Bianca Salai, 26, from Nanuet for vehicular assault in the second degree (felony), leaving the scene of a serious physical injury accident (felony) and driving while intoxicated (misdemeanor) after she was involved in an accident which occurred near the intersection of Dustman Lane and Rt. 304 in Bardonia.

Salai was driving a 2008 Chrysler minivan when she failed to yield the right of way to a 1987 Honda motorcycle.  The driver of the motorcycle sustained a severe, but not life threatening, injury to his lower extremity.  The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Nyack Hospital.

After the collision, witnesses observed Salai exit her vehicle and run into a neighboring establishment and out the rear door where she was located by officers in the rear parking lot of 140 Rt. 304, Bardonia. Salai appeared to be intoxicated and was administered field sobriety tests, which she failed.  She was transported to Clarkstown Police Headquarters where she refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Salai was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court before Judge Johns. Bail was set at $1,000 with a return court date of July 31, 2013.
