On September 22, 1780, Major John Andre and Benedict Arnold met in the woods along the Hudson shoreline. Their act of treason was a pivotal point in the Revolutionary war. To commemorate the meeting of these two men, the HSRC will present a “Walk Through History” visiting the places in Rockland that were involved in this event.
The guided walk will take place on Sunday, September 22, 2013 and will be a 2-Part Walking Tour. The tour will begin in Haverstraw at 9am and continue in Tappan at 11 a.m. Admission is free, reservations are required. There will also be an optional buffet brunch after the walk at The ’76 House In Tappan, which costs $30.
Part I of the tour begins at 9 a.m. at Haverstraw Dutchtown park/playground. Then, guests will travel in their own cars from Haverstraw to Tappan. Part II of the tour will begin at 11 a.m. at the ’76 House Restaurant parking lot at 110 Main Street, Tappan. At the conclusion of Part II, guests can join us at The ’76 House, approximately noon, for brunch, conversation, and a description of that building’s role in these events.
