BREGA TAKES OVER COUNTY BUS SERVICES NOV. 3

Press Release from Rockland County

On Sunday, November 3rd, 2013, Brega Transport Corp. will begin operating the Transport of Rockland (TOR) and TAPPAN ZEExpress (TZx) bus services. Bus routes, service schedules and fares will remain the same. The transition is scheduled to take place at the start of the service day on Sunday, beginning with the TOR Loop #1 schedule at 7 a.m.

This is the first time that the county has changed operators in the history of the TOR and TZx bus services. While passengers should not expect any difference in their travel experience on the buses, as with any major change, there could be some delays or minor service disruptions during the transition. The Public Transportation Department is asking that riders be patient as the transition takes place.

โ€œOur goal is to implement a seamless transition, in which passengers may not even notice a change in their riding experience,โ€ said Commissioner Thomas B. Vanderbeek.

Public Transportation Department employees and Brega Transport Corp. staff will be in the field during the transition period to assist passengers. In addition, the Countyโ€™s Transit Information Center phone lines will be staffed on Sunday, November 3 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to assist passengers. On Monday, November 4, the Transit Information Center will provide expanded phone line hours, starting at 6 a.m. (instead of 9 a.m.) and remaining available until 5 p.m. For assistance outside of those hours, passengers may contact the Brega Transport Corp. Dispatch Office at 845-267-2828.

Rockland County contracts with a private company to operate service on eleven bus routes serving all of Rockland and extending into Westchester County to serve Tarrytown Rail Station and the City of White Plains. Brega Transport Corp., based in Valley Cottage, NY, was awarded the contract to operate the bus services for five years through a competitive bidding process.

TOR and TZx buses provide approximately 3.4 million rides annually, operating seven days a week on some routes. Buses are on a โ€œfixed-route/flexible stopโ€ system, which means that passengers can board or disembark from the bus at any safe location along a route.

For transit information, call the Rockland Transit Information Center at 845-364-3333, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bus schedules are online at www.rocklandbus.com, and transit inquiries can be sent to transithelp@co.rockland.ny.us.
