The grand marshal of the 2014 Rockland County Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Pearl River is Jim McDonnell of Stony Point. In addition to serving as councilman and former zoning board chairman in his town, McDonnell is well known for being “involved with everything Irish,” according to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, sponsors of the annual affair.
Rockland County’s Ancient Order of Hibernians also had other congratulations to announce this week. Member Neil Cosgrave has been named an aide to the grand marshal of the NYC Parade, Colette Curry and Lesley Lennon were named Businesswomen of the Year and James Tessyman was named Hibernian of the Year. The 2014 parade commander has not yet been announced.
The Rockland County Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is a tradition dating back to 1963 and has been in Pearl River since 1974. Since its inception the parade has been the second largest Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in New York State (following New York City). In 2014, as always, the parade will be held on the first Sunday after New York City Parade.
