Stony Point Police using app to connect with the community

600388_307696172653829_358390861_nThe Stony Point Police Department has found a new way to communicate and engage with residents in town.

This week the Stony Point Police began using the My Police Department or MyPD phone application as a means to provide notifications and information to the public regarding events, crimes and wanted persons. The Stony Point Police Department is the first police department in Rockland County and only one of four police agencies in New York State using this technology to communicate with its residents.

MyPD is a free app that can be downloaded through iTunes or Google Play. With it, citizens have access to a number of features, including contacts, feedback and tip forms. They can also access information from FEMA, the National Weather Service and the National Terror Advisory System, and much more, according to the Stony Point Police.

The police app also contains links to information about wanted persons, sex offenders and links to their website where you can find out about recent arrests. It also allows the department to solicit help from the public in ongoing investigations or crimes.

โ€œOur My Police Department app is a great addition to the agencyโ€ said Police Chief Brian J. Moore. โ€œWe can push out notifications and an alert to the public and the public has a variety of ways to contacts us and give us feedback easily from a smartphone or tablet.โ€

Users can choose not only the Stony Point Police app but they also have the option to view other police departments on MyPD by choosing a different city or state. The app defaults to the last agency viewed upon opening, this makes it easy to always open just to the Stony Point Police Department.

The department home screen contains a number of features with more located in the bottom menu which activates upon touch or swipe.

โ€œWe are pleased to have the Stony Point Police join MyPDโ€ said Peter Olson, Founder of WiredBlue which develops the MyPD app. โ€œWe now have almost 150 law enforcement agencies using the My Police Department app platform. We are proud to work with these communities and provide this platform to agencies of all sizes across the country.โ€

9-1-1 continues to be the appropriate method to report emergency situations and request emergency response.

More information can be found on the department website at www.stonypointpd.org or at the police app website http://MyPDapp.com
