Getting Ready for the Great American Cleanup

FROM KRB

20130511 FallCleanUp2013_groupOnce again this year you can help friends and neighbors remove tons of litter from our streets, parks and waterways during Keep Rockland Beautifulโ€™s Great American Cleanup Campaign. In 2013, over 3,000 volunteers from around the county made it possible for all of us to enjoy a cleaner, greener Rockland. Itโ€™s also an excellent teaching moment for children to learn more about the world around them and earn community service hours.

Volunteers interested in participating may schedule a cleanup for any day in April and May. Or they can join up with one of KRBโ€™s scheduled Community Cleanup Events. These are special days where neighbors gather to pick up supplies, enjoy refreshments and exchange ideas. The Community Cleanup Events currently scheduled for 2014 include:

Blauvelt โ€“ Sun, April 27

Congers โ€“ Sat, April 26

Haverstraw โ€“ Sun, April 27

Montebello โ€“ Sat, April 12

Nanuet โ€“ Sat, April 5

New City โ€“ Sat, April 5 (Kick-Off Event)

Nyack โ€“ Sat, April 26

Pearl River โ€“ Sat, April 26

Stony Point โ€“ Sat, April 12

Suffern โ€“ Sat, April 26

W. Haverstraw โ€“ Sun, April 27

The season kicks off with the first Community Cleanup, this year in New City. The winner of the KRB t-shirt design contest will be revealed along with the first discovery of Cleanup KiRBy, a gnome who serves as the campaignโ€™s mascot. Anyone who finds KiRBy in a littered site wins a prize.
