Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino (R) is officially in the running for governor of New York.

Barring a primary challenge from Donald Trump or an unforeseen candidate or other unexpected circumstance, the November match-up for governor will be Astorino (R) vs. the incumbent Andrew Cuomo (D).
Astorino will campaign on his record of cutting taxes and controlling government spending while unifying disparate groups as a conservative Republican in a liberal county. Cuomo will likely portray himself as getting the state on the right track during his first term and attempt to color Astorino as an “extremist” on social issues such as gay marriage and gun rights.
NYGOP Chair Ed Cox released the following statement in response to Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino’s campaign announcement:
“Goliath, meet David. Rob Astorino has proven that a Republican can win in two-to-one Democratic New York. Rob has what it takes to reverse the decline of New York, not just try to manage it like our last three Democratic Governors.”
