Surplus US military gear, including MRAPs, going to local police

FLORENCE, S.C. –  The large armored truck parked outside the Florence County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina offers deputies more protection than they’re likely to ever need.

“But if it exceeds our needs, then it will obviously meet our needs,” explained sheriff’s Capt. John Crouse, adding that his county didn’t have to pay a dime for the Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle.
