Bowe Bergdahl returned to active duty

After several weeks home following five years of captivity in Afghanistan, U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl returned to active duty on Monday. Bergdahl was the subject of a controversial exchange of prisoners with the Taliban this spring and was called a deserter by soldiers who served with him.

Bergdahl is continuing to serve at U.S. Army North at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston in Texas, the same location where he recuperated after his return in a controversial prisoner swap. His exact duties were not disclosed, but it was revealed he would serve in some homeland security role.

An investigation will likely continue into Bergdahl’s disappearance from his Afghanistan base in 2009 and subsequent capture by the Taliban.
