UNIONS RECRUIT: Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Harriman, NY (July 14, 2014) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Electricians Local Union #363 will conduct a recruitment from August 4, 2014 through May 8, 2015 for 15 electrician apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications must be obtained and submitted in person at Local Union #363, 67 Commerce Drive South, Harriman, NY, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the first full business week of the following months: August 2014 (August 4 – August 8), November 2014 (November 3 – November 7), February 2015 (February 2 – February 6), and May 2015 (May 4 – May 8). The Committee requires that applicants:

Must be at least 18 years old.

Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED), including one year of algebra.

Must submit to a physical at the expense of the sponsor.

Must attest that he/she is physically able to perform the work of an electrician, which may include:

Climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, poles, or towers of various heights.

Crawling and working in confined spaces such as attics and manholes.

Working in severe weather conditions and extreme temperatures.

Must have a valid NYS driverโ€™s license.

Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction.

Must attend all related classroom training as required to complete this apprenticeship program.

Must be able to distinguish colors.

Must be able to read, hear, and understand verbal instructions and warnings given in English.

Must provide a copy of his/her birth certificate and Social Security card after selection and prior to indenture.

Must be a resident within the jurisdiction of Local Union #363, which includes the counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, and Ulster (also includes parts of Delaware County* and Greene County**).

*In Delaware County – The townships of Andes, Harpersfield, Kortright, Stamford, Bovina, Roxbury, and Middletown; also the portions of Colchester and Hancock townships south of the East Branch of the Delaware River.

**In Greene County – That portion of the county which lies south of a line beginning at the Hudson River and following the south limits of the City of Catskill to Highway 23A, along 23A to Route 2 (the road following the Little West Kill), and continuing west along this road to Delaware County.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
