The Arts Council of Rockland has awarded Community Arts and Arts Education grants to Rockland County Organizations as part of the Decentralization Re-grant Program of the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). The recipients, local non-profit organizations offering cultural and artistic programs or sponsoring local individual artists, will be awarded a total of $37,385.
The 2014 Community Arts and Arts Education Grant recipients are:
African American Historical Society of Rockland County โfor two performances of A Glimpse of the Harlem Renaissance and for an exhibition of important figures from the Harlem Renaissance along with biographies and selections from their work.
Nyack Center โ for Walk to the Beat, a town-wide celebration of percussive dance and world music
Chiku Awali โ for two projects: a four week workshop in Adinkra symbol stenciling, mancala designing, jewelry creation and duku and atade wrapping. Also for multi-week training and presentation of African dance and drumming.
Friends of the Nyacks – for the Mostly Music Festival on the Hudson
Finkelstein Memorial Library โ for the exhibition Retrospective: Spirit of a People
Jamaican Civic and Cultural Association of Rockland โ for multiple performances of Steel Band Music for all Ages
Rockland County Welcome Committee โ for two projects, one community and one for schools of the Musical Arts Development Program, multi-disciplinary 9 week programs that explore personal identity through music. Including a broad exposure to performance, song writing, sound-mixing, recording, legal issues and much more.
Acting Out the Past โ for multiple performances of Radio Golf by August Wilson
Rockland Jazz and Blues Society โ for four performances of All That Jazz: Four Generations of Jazz
Ramapo High School – for Exploring Sevilla, Spain
Hempstead Elementary โ for Folk Music Experience for special needs children
Ramapo High School โ for Jose Limon Dance Project
Spring Valley High School โ for Percussive Dance and African Music Workshop
